CASE 3
Mrs X, London, was a divorcee and single parent to five children. Unable to work as the responsibility of the children rested solely on her shoulders, she soon found herself in arrears with her mortgage lender. Mrs X was unable to commit to monthly repayments due to unemployment,
therefore Home Assured applied for Housing Benefit on her behalf. Unfortunately Benefit was denied by the council on the grounds that Mrs X appeared to be making herself 'intentionally homeless'.
In spite of this, Home Assured continued with Mrs X's case and re-applied
for Housing Benefit. In the meantime Mrs X and her family were able to avoid
eviction and remain in the property as tenants of Home Assured. After 9 months Benefit was eventually granted and monies owed to Home Assured were backdated to the beginning of the case.
Mrs X said: "I found the people at Home Assured to be caring and considerate and they have stuck by me and my five children and enabled us to stay in our home. I am an epileptic and unable to drive, but I was kindly picked up and taken to the council offices whenever needed. Home Assured have worked extremely hard in this matter and I feel that I can trust them completely. I wish to thank them very much for all their kindness and for helping me to remain in my home."
